IR(R), Night Ratings and SEP Renewals/Revalidation

IR(R)

The Instrument Rating (Restricted)  

This allows the holder to conduct flight in instrument meteorological conditions. They can fly in accordance with Instrument flight rules (IFR) in uncontrolled airspace and conduct instrument approach procedures.

         

Training Requirements

  • 25 hrs flight experience post licence issue.

  • 15 hours of instrument flight training

  • 10 hours must be by sole reference to instruments

  • Skills test with a Flight Examiner

Night Rating 

This can be added to a PPL or LAPL to allow the holder to fly at night. Official night is from 30 mins after sunset until 30 before sunrise.

 

Training Requirements

  • 5 Hours of training at night to include

  • Take off, Circuits and Landing Procedures

  • 1hr navigation flight (50nm)

  • 5 Solo full stop landings

  • Emergency and abnormal procedures 

No exam is required.
